To Answer for those who Question
I want to put here why I chose to look more at the dystopian genre in YA. I have been an avid reader of YA Lit. I always thought of myself of a rounded reader in this genre, reading anything and everything. Over the last year I have been looking closer at what I read and I have noticed that I have been straying from being an overall reader and more into a specific reader of a certain type of subgenre(s) (what I have termed all the genres under YA Lit). The opportunity came that I could look more into why I have been swayed into certain subgenres, so I chose to look into dystopians specifically because I feel that is the subgenre I have been reading more of when I have the time. I wanted to see if I have been influenced by outside sources into what I read or maybe just find reasons why I am more interested in the plotlines of these stories and see if others were like me. Throughout this process, I have learned abundance about dystopias and why they are so popular. This research and discussions in another class have lead me to believe that not just dystopias but YA in general is a good area to look into when trying to connect with a wide audience—I am meaning old and young, male and female—and make them think and process the world of the story as well as the world they live in.
